I'm a mid-40s self-identified bear.

To oversimplify it, bear=hirsute gay man. However the term bear is often used for more rubust (thicker) men. Facial hair is often important for bears. However, none of these definitions are completely accurate. If you ask gay men what a bear is, you will get a plethora of answers, however many will come out with words like fat, hairy or bearded. In my book none of the preceding attributes are necessary to be a bear. To me (unlike bears in the wild) gay bears are social creatures. We're a friendly bunch who tend to hug a lot.
